Week 8: Integrating Sensors and Coding

Objectives:
  • Testing PIR Sensor
  • Writing code to activate motors with sensor
  • Finishing up motors
We worked more on the PIR Sensor this week, as shown in Figure 1. Namely, we tested to figure out which pin was the one associated with sensitivity. We set up a simple circuit with an LED to test this until we found which orange pin on the sensor was to change time and which was to change sensitivity. Afterwards, we used Python to code the sensor to work. This was difficult for us and we had to learn it ourselves online. We did not finish by the end of class, so we stayed for an extra 2 hours in the Innovation Studio after class ended.

Furthermore, we decided to replace our old servo motors will new ones, as shown below in Figure 2. The new servos have a better torque rating and can therefore hold the weight of the arms at any angle.
